Santiago Pani (b. 1990, Mexico) is a visual artist currently based in Leiden, The Netherlands. Raised in a family of artists and educated at La Esmeralda (ENPEG) in Mexico City, he has developed a practice focused on the pursuit of a personal pictorial language that transcends stylistic trends.

His work explores the human figure as a fragmented memory, drawing inspiration from anonymous faces that emerge from dreams, fleeting encounters, and the subconscious. Situated at the threshold of recognition, these figures materialize and dissolve, reflecting the inherent instability of perception and recollection. Each composition radiates dynamism, energy, boldness, freshness, and a commanding sense of scale, immediately capturing the viewer’s attention and encouraging a thoughtful, immersive exploration of every detail within the painting.

In recent years, Pani’s practice has evolved toward abstraction, investigating how minimal visual elements can still evoke a face and questioning the boundaries of representation. Through an intuitive and playful process that balances control with chance, his paintings invite contemplation on the ways in which reality is perceived, reconstructed, and imagined.
