Moisés Yagües (b. 1972, Spain) is a contemporary artist living and working in Murcia whose practice centers on imaginative, narrative-driven figuration. Through a deliberately simple visual language, he creates poetic scenes where ideas, emotions, and inner thoughts unfold as stories.
Yagües often imagines the human mind and body as spaces where narratives take shape. His cartoon-like characters — energetic yet tender — inhabit surreal situations that balance humor with introspection, inviting viewers into a playful but reflective universe. Influenced by comics, illustration, pop art, and street culture, his work combines accessibility with conceptual depth. The works radiate life, humor, style, taste, and talent, immediately captivating the viewer and
conveying a distinct mood. A smile inevitably arises the moment one’s gaze meets the canvas.
References to art history frequently appear in his practice, particularly in series such as The Assistants and In Progress, where recurring figures engage in the act of making art itself, transforming creation into narrative. Another recurring motif, the “monster,” symbolizes doubt and internal obstacles, reframing uncertainty as a necessary force for growth and transformation.
Yagües has exhibited internationally and participated in major contemporary art fairs, including Art Central Hong Kong, Art Taipei, KIAF, Art021 Shanghai, and Context Miami. He has received grants from institutions such as the Joan Miró Foundation, Casa Falconieri, Guanlan Art Centre, and Kloster Bentlage Art Centre.
