Mercedes Lara (b. 1967, Madrid, Spain) is a multidisciplinary artist who works across drawing, installation, and mixed media. A graduate of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, she further advanced her practice at the Antonio Ratti Foundation in Como under the mentorship of Gerhard Richter.

Her work investigates the passage of time and the transformation of space, with particular attention to transitional states—the abstract boundaries amid moments, places, and emotional conditions. Rhythm is a central concept in her practice, conceived as the force that connects experiences and “sews” together time, space, and emotion, allowing order
to emerge as a form of lived poetry.

Lara has exhibited widely in Spain and internationally, with solo exhibitions at Galería Lucía Mendoza (Madrid), Centro Cultural de Cascais, and Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (Japan), as well as participation in major group exhibitions, including Magic
and Gold at the ARKEN Museum, Copenhagen. Her work is included in public and private collections, including the Fundación Wellington, the Parlamento de La Rioja, and the Abrons Arts Center in New York.
